Our next stop was Yosemite National Park. If you plan a trip there, plan at least two days! We know we did not see it all. And the trees are enormous!Even the ones that have fallen down.See that man standing there? Give you an idea of how big it was? This was not as big but my oh my!
The rock formations and scenery was just awesome… We had some smoke from the fires but it really did not hurt the views.
Inside and outside the hotel in Yosemite. When we were leaving the hotel we were a bit confused as to where our car was. Earlier in the day we caught the free shuttle and rode it around a bit. A very nice National Park worker was showing a French couple where the parking lot was. (Lots and lots of foreigners. Welcome!) Anyway, she asked if we could show them the way after she told us how to find our spot. Sure. No problem. The French woman asked where we were from in some broken French and we asked the same of them. Well, they were from near the coast of France in a place called “bodu”. Huh? No, never heard of it. She said it again. Nope. Don’t know it. “Like the wine.” OHHHHHH! Bordoh! In my best Texas accent I am sure for Bordeaux. Sheesh. So now we know the real way to pronounce Bordeaux.
As we left Yosemite the first night we had to drive on a one lane road and bridge. Found out there was a rock slide sometime that had wiped out the road. SCARY!More of the views of Yosemite. No, we missed the waterfalls. Just a good reason to go back.
When we left Yosemite we went on to the Reno area to attend a Forrester family reunion. While there we had a call from our niece telling us that Ross’ sister had died. We were shocked. We knew she was not well and was being sent home with hospice care. Apparently she did not even make it home but died in hospice care at the hospital. It was so sudden! Ross was of course very upset. We were 1,400 miles from home. After doing some real soul searching, debating, discussing, asking opinions, we decided not to try to get home for the funeral. I know lots of people are not happy with our decision but the cost to fly home and back was just way too much and driving that far that fast would be very hard on our two old bodies. I know. We really felt bad and as I said, lots of hurt feelings about our decision. We have to live with that decision. Kathleen and Mike and Travis and Stephanie did go and I thanked them so much for being our representatives. Not the same but so glad they could be there.
OK, now I feel bad. Forgot to add that BOTH my darling sisters attended. Thank you, Molly and Cynthia!
