Thanksgiving for another year

Thanksgiving was really kind of calm and quiet.  And I was a really bad photographer.  I only took some pictures of the boys pulling the wishbone, a Thanksgiving tradition.  There were only seven of us: Sarah (our niece), Kathleen, Mike, Zachary, Zane, Ross and me.

The food was fantastic and of course there was too much.  Turkey, dressing, cranberry, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, corn pudding, orange salad, black olives, gravy.  What did I miss?  Well pies for one thing of course.  Pumpkin and pecan.  Sarah brought a great red wine.  It really was a nice day, beautiful weather.  We even had to open a couple of windows toward the end.

Kathleen jumped right in after we were done and cleaned up!  I know she had to change the dishwater once.  I did the drying but was soooo thankful for the cleanup.  I did not have to face that after everyone left.

So, I am thankful for family and sharing another Thanksgiving.

OK, so pictures of the boy pulling the wishbone.  Zachary and I started this tradition when he was very small.  Then when Zane got old enough, we let the two of them pull it.  And it continues…

You know, next year, someone remind me to wash the wishbone.  It was slippery!!!11-28-13 pulling the wishbone 03So they pulled…11-28-13 pulling the wishbone 0511-28-13 pulling the wishbone 09And pulled…11-28-13 pulling the wishbone 18I don’t think they ever had a clean break and a clear winner so it became a tie.  All in good fun.11-28-13 pulling the wishbone 19

The boys usually stay with us on Tuesday night since there is no school on Wednesday.  They have gotten old enough to stay home but asked to come stay this year.  I think the ulterior motive was food – they like to have someone feed them!  Don’t we all.

Anyway, Ross has a new guitar and amp and the boys liked acting like rock stars.  I got a picture of Zane playing but not Zachary and he refused to go pose for me with the guitar.  Teenagers.  But I got a picture of him anyway.

Well, we knew it would happen

Snow!  Yep, Ross had just said it will snow before Thanksgiving and here it is…

DSC_0245Buddy thought it was fun to run in but did not want to stay out in it for long.DSC_0246DSC_0248DSC_0249DSC_0251This will be reduced in no time!  Time to buy some more.  DSC_0252Look at all the tumbleweeds piled by the fence.  And I know there are fields still holding on to those weeds.DSC_0253DSC_0254DSC_0256DSC_0260I think I better get out and feed those poor birds!

Good thing they had Zane’s turkey run at school last Wednesday since the weather has really changed!  The geese have been everywhere lately, even on the school playground.DSC_0218_exposureSecond grade boys first.  DSC_0221_exposureThat’s Zane with the blue hoody, light blue pants.DSC_0223_exposureAnd Zane just behind in the blue.  Hard to see I know.DSC_0224_exposureDSC_0226_exposureAnd they are off.DSC_0227_exposureDSC_0228_exposureDSC_0230_exposureZane is a pretty good long distance runner.  Speed, no, but he has staying power.DSC_0237_exposureHe did run all the way around and passed several runners.  DSC_0238_exposureI think he came in 9th or 10th.  DSC_0240_exposure

On a side note we went to see Catching Fire yesterday.  Really good movie!  I have read all the books and now cannot wait for Mockingjay.  When?  Not sure but I know they are filming now and will make it into two movies.

Thanks for visiting…

Quiet times

Not much going on around here.  I have been working about three days a week, 17-18 hours.  It really is a perfect job.

We moved around our living room and bedroom.  I used to do that all by myself but with Ross’s help it goes faster moving but not the decision making.  He puts things where I DO NOT want them and the set up does not flow. Then he has to move them where I DO want them.  Sigh.  Still not happy with the living room but it will change.  Have to make room for the Christmas tree very soon.

Boys are busy with school.  Zachary made the basketball team!  Yeah!  He is thrilled.  Zane will have a Turkey Run at school this Friday and I do plan on attending.  He has Thanksgiving dinner at school Thursday but Kathleen is going for that.  Both boys had great report cards.  I think Mike and Kathleen are raising well rounded, good boys.  But I may be just a bit prejudiced.  Love those grandsons!

Of course Thanksgiving is coming very fast!  We will be having it here I think.  The usual meal of turkey and dressing.  I am debating my pies.  One pumpkin, one chocolate, one pecan?  Hmmm.  Two pumpkin, one chocolate, one pecan?  Not sure.  Need to poll the participants.

Still undecided as far as taking the trailer somewhere in January or February.  I want to go to the coast.  Ross is so so about it.  He is thinking maybe we need to go to Alaska in May but now we are debating the trailer, flying, driving, cruise, ferry.  Decisions, decisions.  And of course, Alaska is a budget buster for sure.  So we do not think we can do both.  And of course I do want to go to the mountains this summer.  But that is a pretty cheap trip as we usually stay outside of Red River in the national forest camping areas.  I just want to go somewhere now!  Well, after Christmas.  Wonder if I can talk him into a ski trip?  Hmmm.

That is just about the extent of my week.  I did get some pictures of the moon this morning.  Love those full moons.

Whoa! Where did the time go??

I cannot believe it has been over a month since I sat down to blog.  That just tells you we have not been doing a lot.  No, that is not true, I just have not been taking pictures or writing.  I do have a few sky pictures:

DSC_0241DSC_0242DSC_0249DSC_0072

Such gorgeous sunsets and sunrises here.

We have had a few soccer games and football games but the season is over.  Zachary starts basketball if he makes the team.  If he does not make the team, he will be in off season doing weight lifting.  Zane will probably play Y basketball but that will not be until January.

A couple of Zachary’s last games…

For some reason we just cannot get off our duff to travel anywhere.  Ross blames me and I blame him but it is pretty much laziness.  He has been really busy looking for a “new” trailer.  The boys don’t want us to get one as that would mean doing away with the bunk beds.  Believe me, they feel that trailer is half theirs.

And I really feel we need to spend money here and Christmas is coming.  We did put siding on the back of our garage.  So that project is done.  It means all of the house is now covered with decent siding.  Yah!!  I want very much to paint the living room, kitchen, dining room and front bathroom.  As soon as I buy the repair stuff and paint I will get Ross right on it.  Ha.  I really want new cabinets for the kitchen but not sure I want to let loose of that kind of money.  We’ll see.

Ross bought a new to him guitar and amp.  He has never had an electric guitar but does have three acoustic and a bass and bass amp.  Don’t you think that means I need to go buy me a new iPhone and an iPad?  Yep, me too.  going to do the iPad by the end of the month I think when the new mini comes out.  IPhone I need to do soon as Zachary will get my iPhone 4.  He and Kathleen still have iPhone 3!!  Gosh do they really need the upgrade.  However, Zachary is not due an upgrade until August and we just are not going to spend $250+. Better just to give him mine.  And I will get the new iPhone 5S.

Zane had a Veteran’s Day Program at school today.  We try to go every year.  So moving.  I do cry at Taps.  And this year the student body sang it and two bugles played it.  Wow!

What else?  Hmmmm.  Oh, Halloween was quiet.  The boys went to the church for their Halloween fest but Kathleen sent me a picture of the nerd and the ghost.  Cute.

OK, I quit.  Can’t think what else you might want to hear.  Maybe we will get it in gear and go somewhere in January.  My rule is I will  not be gone for Thanksgiving or Christmas so you know we won’t be gone then.  Thanks for visiting.
