So day 2 we stayed at Trinidad but made our side trip to LaVeta, Cuchara, Bear Lake and Blue Lake. Fishing was not a success, as I said, but the wildlife was great. Weather was rainy and a bit cool.
Lake was gorgeous. We should have caught something. That old adage about when it rains, they bite – Ha!One of the lakes with no fishermen. On our way through LaVeta we rain into a herd of bucks! I have never seen so many bucks in one area – I think about 8 of them. Obviously the do know when hunting season is.I think they were enjoying all the vegetation. The rains have made everything so green and lush. This was probably the biggest of the bucks and was not shy.Do you see the grouse? He blends right in.There were several on the road and in the forest but from my side of the truck, all I could get a picture of was this one! Sigh.
On the way back to Trinidad we rain into ANOTHER hail storm. This time we were right behind it so it did not hail on us. At first we thought it was snow. You know there was a lot of hail when the snow plow comes along!
Our last stop of the day – besides somewhere for dinner – was a museum in Trinidad. Part of it was closed but we did visit this part. It was made from an old boarding house. Interesting.
This was Kit Carson’s coat he wore for years! I love this trunk. The boys were fascinated by the sidesaddle. I had to explain how the horse was ridden with it. Funny watching their faces and hearing their comments!
