Nana and Papa trip with Zachary and Zane Day 2 (lots of pictures!)

So day 2 we stayed at Trinidad but made our side trip to LaVeta, Cuchara, Bear Lake and Blue Lake.  Fishing was not a success, as I said, but the wildlife was great. Weather was rainy and a bit cool.

08-07-13 Cuchara area 0308-07-13 fishing 0308-07-13 fishing 04Lake was gorgeous.  We should have caught something.  That old adage about when it rains, they bite – Ha!08-07-13 fishing 0508-07-13 fishing 06One of the lakes with no fishermen.08-07-13 Cuchara area 0508-07-13 Cuchara area 0608-07-13 Cuchara area 10On our way through LaVeta we rain into a herd of bucks!  I have never seen so many bucks in one area – I think about 8 of them.  Obviously the do know when hunting season is.08-07-13 deer near LaVeta 0108-07-13 deer near LaVeta 0308-07-13 deer near LaVeta 0408-07-13 deer near LaVeta 0808-07-13 deer near LaVeta 1708-07-13 deer near LaVeta 19I think they were enjoying all the vegetation.  The rains have made everything so green and lush.  This was probably the biggest of the bucks and was not shy.08-07-13 deer near LaVeta 21Do you see the grouse?  He blends right in.08-07-13 Grouse near Cuchara 0108-07-13 Grouse near Cuchara 02There were several on the road and in the forest but from my side of the truck, all I could get a picture of was this one!  Sigh.08-07-13 Grouse near Cuchara 0408-07-13 Grouse near Cuchara 10

On the way back to Trinidad we rain into ANOTHER hail storm.  This time we were right behind it so it did not hail on us.  At first we thought it was snow.08-07-13 Hail near Trinidad 0108-07-13 Hail near Trinidad 0208-07-13 Hail near Trinidad 0308-07-13 Hail near Trinidad 05You know there was a lot of hail when the snow plow comes along!08-07-13 Hail near Trinidad 1208-07-13 Hail near Trinidad 13

Our last stop of the day – besides somewhere for dinner – was a museum in Trinidad.  Part of it was closed but we did visit this part.  It was made from an old boarding house.  Interesting.

This was Kit Carson’s coat he wore for years!  08-07-13 Trinidad museum 0108-07-13 Trinidad museum 0208-07-13 Trinidad museum 0308-07-13 Trinidad museum 04I love this trunk.  08-07-13 Trinidad museum 0608-07-13 Trinidad museum 0708-07-13 Trinidad museum 08The boys were fascinated by the sidesaddle.  I had to explain how the horse was ridden with it.  Funny watching their faces and hearing their comments!08-07-13 Trinidad museum 10
