Nana and Papa trip with Zachary and Zane–final installment

From Thirty Mile Campground we went on to Fun Valley, located near South Fork, CO.  It is advertised as a family resort and it certainly is.  The one thing I don’t like is their pricing policy.  It is priced for two people then a charge is tacked on for each member after that.  Well, I don’t know, but family means there will be more than two usually. We are finding this happens more and more but usually it is for over four or six, not two.  Anyway, the price for a travel trailer is not too bad as we hit peak season but still not near as cheap as a state or national park!  Bonus is, lots to do and fun for kids and they can go constantly on their own.

One last stop in Creede.08-12-13 Boys in Creede CO 02The ponds are all over Fun Valley BUT you have to purchase a permit to fish in the ponds.  The river is free to fish in but if you are an adult you must have a license and it is catch and release.  Needless to say, the boys only fished one day.  Well, two kind of.  We bought the license at about 9:45 so they could fish until 9:45 the next morning.  Never caught anything in the ponds or the river.  08-13-13 10-55-41 - 000108-13-13 10-56-15 - 0002But they sure tried.08-13-13 10-56-34 - 0003No pictures, but the first night we went to a dance with music by a great group, honky tonk type, and the boys loved it!  Zane and I danced, Zachary did the chicken.  It was so much fun – and free!  We did it again on our third night, Wed.  Ross got to attend a guitar jam session one day and and electric guitar session another day.  He loved it.  And free.  There was a craft show during the week and lots of other things to do – putt putt and paddle boats.  Just depends on how much or little you want to spend.  The kids loved it!

Next day we went horseback riding in the rain.  I have a lot more respect for the cowboys working in the rain!08-13-13 horseback Fun Valley 0108-13-13 horseback Fun Valley 0208-13-13 horseback Fun Valley 0308-13-13 horseback Fun Valley 09It really was not too bad until the end then the rain came down a bit more.  Beautiful country.  Great wrangler, Tyke.08-13-13 horseback Fun Valley 10We did let the boys fish in the “guaranteed” pond and paid the per inch cost.  Worth it for them to catch some nice trout.08-14-13 Boys fish 0408-14-13 Boys fish 01Then another horseback day.  Of course, I love horseback riding and really the price for this was pretty good – $35 for a two hour ride.  It was a slow paced up and down the mountain ride, but at least on this day, it was clear and bright.  We had to remove jackets later.08-15-13 10-06-55 - 000608-15-13 10-07-05 - 000708-15-13 10-07-10 - 0008Dan took Melinda for her first ride ever. That about ended our trip.  We got up the next morning and made the trip home.  Oh, forgot to tell everyone that Dad lost his awning!  On our way to Creede and Thirty Mile.  He had trouble with it early on but we got it rolled in but somewhere on the highway it was GONE!  The arms were left but torn up.  Guess he will be finding another awning.  Ours has been giving us some problems so we will be latching it down with some bolts or something.  Lesson learned!

Thanks for listening and looking!
