Oh what a day!

This year is like other summers I that I am babysitting the boys during the week.  This year is not like other summers in that Zachary and Zane are staying home two or three days by themselves.  So far it is working out really well.  And they have the option of calling me if they need something but so far, all is goo.  Knock on wood.

This week is kind of a strange one with the 4th of July coming up.  They will spend the night with us Thursday after our celebrations here at the house.  Clean up duty.

Anyway, today, or rather yesterday, a Zane’s best friend’s mother called and asked if Aiden could come stay with the boys as she did not have a babysitter.  Kathleen called me and asked if I had a problem since they were coming to stay with me today.  No, what is one more boy.  Oh, brother!  One more 7 year old boy.  But you know what, it was a fun day.

First we started off with breakfast and taking Buddy to the vet for his booster snake vaccine.  After that we came home to paint the old birdhouses and build a couple of projects then have lunch before checking to see if the fireworks stand was open.

DSC_0400Red, white and blue of course.  Just some colors I had on hand.DSC_0401DSC_0402DSC_0403DSC_0404DSC_0405DSC_0406I was absolutely amazed at how little paint they actually got on them.  I had told the moms to make sure they brought some old shirts to paint in.DSC_0407Zachary was very neat and particular.  Of course, he is 12.DSC_0410But the 7 year olds did a pretty good job!  Decoration on the front was Aiden’s work.DSC_0411DSC_0412DSC_0413DSC_0414DSC_0415Next project – some little wooden puzzles that Kathleen bought a long time ago. The paint and glue had all dried up but we found some glue and they did not care if they painted the projects.  Aiden’s helicopter was missing parts but he was ok and they were fine doing only one project each.  DSC_0416DSC_0418Notice they were very happy sitting on the table working.DSC_0419DSC_0420DSC_0421

After finishing we went in for lunch.  But in the back of their minds they kept waiting to go buy fireworks.  We had told them we would get some for daytime use – smoke bombs, firecrackers, a few tanks, whatever.

And what a time they had.  DSC_0427DSC_0429Did you see how far that one went?DSC_0430DSC_0431Picking what they want next.DSC_0432DSC_0433DSC_0436Trying to twist two or three together to light.DSC_0437DSC_0438See the bubbles.  These particular firecrackers would fire under water.DSC_0439That was lots of fun to watch.DSC_0446DSC_0447The birdbath and dog water bowl got a lot of work today!DSC_0448Last of the smoke bombs.DSC_0458DSC_0461DSC_0462Boys just love smoke bombs.DSC_0465And this is checking out where the smoke bomb in the tree left green and blue.  DSC_0471

Now they are so pumped for the 4th!  I hope everyone is saving their money because they will want lots!
