California here we come!

We decided to take a trip to Palm Springs to visit some friends from Canada who are staying there for a few months.  Ours will be about a week trip.  Anyway, we left Tuesday afternoon after seeing Zane’s Kindergarten program.

This was a rest stop that I thought was interesting.04-18-12 from Alb to Phoenix 006Ross wanted to take a different route, more southerly, to see some of the country we have not seen, maybe check out some camping areas in the mountains of Arizona.  We went from Socorro over and down 12 to a place called Reserve.  It is just off this map but near that airport.  Then we went toward Luna and over to Alpine then south on 191.  Well, let me tell you about 191.  It is LONG!!  And only a couple of places to stop for gas or drinks or anything.  Sorry, Arizona, but I will never go that way again.  That roads winds and goes up and down and winds some more.  Little camping.  It was fun at first but it just go to be too much.  No phone service (I know, never had it before but I am hooked) for that whole journey.  And it took us about two and a half hours.

Of course there was lots of beautiful country.  This is also where they had a huge forest fire last year.

So we spent the night in Apache territory at the Apache Gold Casino and Resort.  Really nice hotel, great prices, and a little fun.  Hitting the road in a bit to get into California.  More later…
