Every year the elementary school Zachary goes to has a track meet. They have field events like lemon relay (as opposed to an egg on a spoon), sack race, three legged race, 100 meter dash, 400 meter run, short hurdles, tug of war, and more and more! In grade levels K-2 they are held at the school and are abbreviated versions and no true track events. In grades 3 and 4 they kids are bussed across the highway to the high school practice track for their events.
This is Zachary’s last year at elementary school. Next year he goes on to 5th grade and middle school. We went to his last meet on this blustery, cool morning (but much warmer than last year!). It did turn warm later in the morning. I took over 150 pictures. I will share just a few here. (Heard that sigh of relief!!)
Almost forgot, Zachary was asked to partner with the special needs kids and assist them in events. Could not be more proud of that kid! And he was thrilled to do it. That is the best part. What an honor! The family heading back from watching the three legged race. Some of our track stars.
Water balloon toss. This one was fun – and wet! Zane enjoying the day. Even the mascot showed up – a Falcon! Just the boys hanging… Tug of war. This one was a relay. One leg jumped rope then the next dribbled. Zachary is a good dribbler but the asphalt almost got the better of him! And of course the sack race.It turned out to be a nice day, just a bit breezy. Next year it will be Zane’s turn.
