Lightening!

Wow!  We had quite a light show the other night.  I took my camera out to capture a few shots.  Just set it to burst mode then held down the button.  Of course, I had to delete a lot.  Enjoy!

Going really well!  Zane is working hard.  Next week he goes to the diving boards.  No, not to dive in but to learn to jump in the deep water.  Scary!

Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge

Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge  This was once a lake but due to some diseases, algae, and other problems, it had to be closed.  It was then turned into a wildlife refuge for deer, coyotes, all types of birds including turkey, quail, pheasant.  We have not been since it was made a refuge and decided to take the boys and go check it out early one morning.  It was a wet, overcast morning.  Perfect!  Not hot!

On the way to Umbarger (turnoff to the refuge) we saw a rainbow.  It was faint, very faint, but there it was.

06-24-10 sky 4 06-24-10 sky 2So we got to the refuge about 7:45.  Ross wanted to get there early!  He would have left at 6:00 a.m. if I had agreed.  Next time we will check the hours out before we take off willy nilly!  Gates did not open until 8:00 a.m.!!

Right off the bat we saw deer.  Now, I am sorry, but I really thought what we saw were mule deer.  Ross thought they were white tail.  After Googling, I still think they were mule deer.06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 02Red winged blackbirds – and lots of doves and other birds.06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 07   Wild turkeys.06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 06And the vultures…06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 42And tiny little snails all over the place.  Strange looking.  Never saw these kind.06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 3406-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 33 06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 35It really was gorgeous down there.  And the slight mist and low temperatures made it really nice for walking around.06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 4406-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 1106-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 15 06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 1606-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 17 06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 31    06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 43 06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 04We did not realize there was camping down there.  No utilities of course but there is a water faucet.  We may go down sometime and spend the night.  No campfires however.06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 03The boys really enjoyed hiking around and even wanted to go to the top of a “mountain”.  It was a really fun day.06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 13 06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 24 06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 50 06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 52 06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 53 06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 54 06-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 5606-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 5706-24-10 Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge 58We came home, bought the boys a few fireworks, and let them play the afternoon away.06-24-10 Fireworks 1 06-24-10 Fireworks 2 06-24-10 Fireworks 3 06-24-10 Fireworks 4 06-24-10 Fireworks 5 06-24-10 Fireworks 6 Can you tell, Zane hates the noise but loves to pop them!
