It was supposed to be a short trip to Round Rock/Austin. Let me start over. We were supposed to take a trip with our nephew and his wife, Dan and Barbara, to the mountains for spring break. They were going to take their fifth wheel and we were going up for relaxing and skiing. Well, health reasons made the trip to the mountains not possible so we traveled to them. And we were going to go for a couple of days camping. Do you know what it is like to find a camping spot that late during SPRING BREAK!!? Unthinkable. We all looked but Dan found a place that would take us in Port Aransas/Rockport.
We drove down to Round Rock on Saturday and then loaded up Monday morning and headed for the coast and all those people. Let me tell you, it could not have been a better trip. Unless we could have caught fish but they just weren’t cooperating. More later.
Our camping spot was at Palm Harbor RV Resort. Apparently Dan and Barbara had stayed there MANY years ago with other relatives. The nicest camp hosts had us a space in overflow. I will stay in overflow any time. We had a great view of a canal behind a marina. No neighbors and lots of grass. Here some views – day and night - from our front door.

I took tons of pictures. I will show a few here and try to upload more to Webshots later. (Tried using Flickr – did not like it! Any suggestions?) So check Webshots in a couple of days.
Some from around the campground day one.
Tuesday it rained nearly all day so we took the opportunity and went sight seeing. Down the beach and through Corpus Christi. Pictures appear blurred but it was the fog and rain, I promise! Well, most of it anyway.

This is the Flagship of Whataburger. Yep, had to visit that!

Big Tree. That is what it is called. It is located on Goose Island.
This is in the harbor where we were staying. The tie up docks had a lot to be desired. There was even a sign that said basically Enter at your own risk!

This boat was here before Hurricane Ike. Apparently the owner tied it to a tree for the storm and left it. Calls have gone unheeded and the boat is falling apart.
Just some pictures from around the area. This egret (I think he is an egret) was just like a puppy. The man would say “Here” then give the bird a piece of his trimmings. So funny to watch. By the way, only one REAL fish caught was by Dan. Some sort of catfish. They caught lots of perch and used those for bait – tiny things. But boy did they try to catch some. Ross told one of the men at the park about not catching any. He came over as we were eating lunch and brought us two packages of red drum. Barbara cooked it that night and we had fish, cole slaw and fried potatoes. SOOOOOOOOO good. Loved every bit! And we ate everything.

The wildflowers were beautiful. The cactus abundant! Dan took that picture of us in the bluebonnets.

On the way home we went to the first Polish community in the United States. The church was beautiful! The other building was the old school, now a museum. Sadly it was closed.

We had such a great time. Started out at a two night stay in Rockport. Ended up staying four nights! And probably would have stayed longer if we had the time. So relaxing.
Heading home! We saw ELK! Near Lampasas. So cool.
And what did we have when we got home? SNOW! Again! In our backyard!
Done! Had enough pictures? If not, go check out my Webshots. I am uploading many many more.
PS!!:

I forgot to tell you a very important part. We went to Port Aransas for one very important task. To buy candy from the candy store there. It is called Winton’s. Barbara was a bad influence! They have this candy called “Good”. It is caramel with lots of walnuts in it. Yes, we bought some. Did we bring it back? Of course not! Ate every last bite. You have not lived until you eat some of that stuff. I am going to experiment and see if I can make some. I’ll let you know how it goes! Oh, I also got me some old fashioned rock candy. Yum. Get me out of there!
