Veterans’ Day was this week, as you all know. Every year the school Zachary goes to has a program for the veterans that are friends or family of the students. This was the first time I have been and it was a very moving program. The principal spoke and the members of the Flag Patrol each had part in the program. Zachary is part of that patrol. I had tears in my eyes many times. First because Zachary did so well! The quality is not good – I did not have my camera set to the best setting. )And the video camera had a bad battery. Never fails.)
The Origin of Veterans Day was their subject.
But I really was moved by all the veterans that made time to be part of the honor given to them by the school. I was also amazed at the veterans there from World War II! Those veterans are getting few and far between. When those men were called to come forward the applause was so loud! It was great for all our veterans, but it seems everyone knew what an honor it was to have a living World War II veteran in our midst.
I think every branch and most of the wars, from WWII to present, were represented. Some were even in uniforms. As I said, very very moving.
Near the end of the program the whole student body sang “Remember to Remember”. We were very impressed. I think the whole school was right on tune and together. Bravo! The speaker was Chief Petty Officer Frank Linan, US Navy. The honorees…Great horn section from the high school.Jennifer calling the names of the veterans. The veterans were accompanied by the students that had invited them. They had pictures made at the front to commemorate the day. Job well done, everyone!
