Back to real life!

The vacation is over.  Time to get back to real life.  Sure was fun while it lasted.

Yes, we did go skiing!  And the snow was great.  Ross and I just skied one day.  For some reason Ross had a very hard time skiing this year (too much weight gain I think!).

Zachary went back to skiing like a duck to water.  He was skiing the blues by the end of the first day.  The second day that is all he wanted to do.  He skied Exhibition (a blue run on the front that I think is steep!) several times.

Zane really surprised all of us!  The first night we got his skis we went home and tried him on the little area in the front of the condo.  He liked the fun downhill stuff but hated the cold and falling in the snow.  We just knew he would quit after just a bit on the slopes.  Nope!  He loved it!  He wanted to ski by himself after the first run.  But of course that did not really happen.  Mike had to stay with him and that was a chore!  We were just amazed at his progress!

Here are a few pictures from practicing at the front of the condo to on the slopes.  The pictures on the slope are captured from the videos so not the best.  Next time I will have a still camera and someone will have the video!  Oh, I do want to share the videos at some point – or part of them – but have to find a program that I can cut out some and save.  They are too big to put on YouTube or even here yet.  Yes, I am working with Windows Movie Maker but on this new laptop with Vista it refuses to show the picture, just has sound.  I will try on the desktop later.

01-01-09 Family Ski Picture                                                       Aren’t we a motley looking crew!

OK, on to other news.  I have been so lax about the blog that I have lots to tell.  Just before we went on this trip Kathleen and I decided we really wanted to be able to video our trip and we wanted laptops!  Kathleen wanted another computer since the one they have is being used all the time by someone in that house.  Solution was a laptop and a wireless router so she could work while they played or vice versa.  So we went out and found some really good buys after Christmas.  The video camera is very small so we could ski and video.  Cool!  And we finally were able to connect in our condo to the internet – much trial and error – so we could retrieve emails and do a little web surfing.  Very cool.  It is just taking me time to figure out Vista but all seems to be working ok.

Zachary once again had excellent grades on his report card.  That kid is smart!  I hope he keeps it up.  The only thing that brings him down is his handwriting.  If that is all he has problems with, who cares.  He had straight A’s this time.  Good job, Zachary!  He is not involved in any sports right now; kind of a lull in the things offered I think.  But I am sure come Feb. or March it will be time for soccer.

And on the potty training front – Zane is finally potty trained.  It was like an overnight thing.  We had backed off and on our trip did not even worry about it.  After we got home and we were talking about Zane’s birthday, coming soon, he said he wanted to go to Chucky Cheese for his “birtday” party.  He wants to play “backetball, hockey, bowing” and all that stuff.  Kathleen told him that only big boys who do not potty in their underwear can do that.  Miracle!  He immediately starting going to the big potty and has not looked back. Oh, there have been accidents but it just amazes me the turnaround he has had.  So Chucky Cheese it is.

Dad is doing well and still playing bingo and enjoying his life in the nursing home.  My sisters are fine although I have not really heard much from Cynthia lately.  Molly’s business is thriving.  We are good here.  Ross just got over a cold; is still getting over it I should say.  Kathleen and Mike are working and being good parents.  Life just keeps trudging by.

Ross has been driving me crazy on the computer though.  You know we have three now!  Yep, and we use them all.  Pretty bad for two people.  Anyway, he has really discovered searching the internet for whatever hits him.  Lately it has been travel trailers.  We really want to upgrade to a regular trailer from our popup and we will at some point.  You guessed it.  He has been searching.  Do you know that all of them begin to look just alike?  Well, they do.  Especially the one we want.  So every couple of minutes it is “Beck, come look at this one.” Or “Beck, want to go to Minnesota.  This one is good and the price is right.”  Yeah, right!  Just what I want to do is run to Minnesota to buy a trailer!!!  Nope, I told him he has to find one in Dallas, Lubbock, OKC, Albuquerque, or even Denver.  Sigh.  We will find one eventually but are perfectly happy to have the popup for this summer.

This summer.  Hmmmm.  We have been debating where to go.  California, Glacier National Park, or the northeast part of the country.  We have been to California but would be going for the San Diego Zoo, Legoland, and maybe some other places.  Never been to Glacier or the northeast.  Decisions, decisions.  Guess we better decide before too long so we can prepare.

Wow!  I have jabbered long enough.  Think I will go find some breakfast then I might try to work on those videos.  Promise to not be so long next time.
